Studio acrylic painting "Sorry Charlie’s" by Georgia artist Don Yaun, depicting the historic red-brick building and iconic fish sign on a Savannah square with warm red-orange and cool blue-green colors

Sorry Charlie’s is a vibrant studio acrylic painting that captures the lively character of this iconic Savannah landmark. This 10″ × 8″ work on canvas panel features the historic brick building and classic sidewalk scene on one of Savannah’s beautiful squares. The large, eye-catching fish sign for “Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar” becomes a focal point, rendered with crisper detail.

Originally planned as a plein air piece, Don Yaun and a friend were rained out, so he worked from a reference photo taken earlier that day. He chose to explore complementary colors—warm red-oranges in the brick against cool blue-greens in the shadows and street—using ultramarine glazes to deepen the shadows and add richness. The loose, layered style shines especially in the street and sidewalk, while the fish sign received more refined detailing.
