Studio acrylic painting "Oregon Field" by Georgia artist Don Yaun, depicting a misty golden wheat field leading to a wooden overlook platform with distant hazy coastline and a figure studying her camera

Oregon Field is a serene studio acrylic landscape that captures a misty, golden overlook discovered during Don Yaun’s 2016 West Coast vacation with his wife. This 36″ × 24″ work follows “Oregon Coast” in the series of paintings inspired by their three-day drive along Highway 101. A small roadside sign piqued their curiosity, leading to a short detour and a paved path through rolling fields of golden wheat (or similar grain) that had been partially harvested. The uphill walk revealed increasingly beautiful views, culminating at a well-built wooden platform overlook that appeared little-visited—quiet, private, and well worth the effort.

The scene is bathed in soft, hazy light on a misty day that soon turned to rain. Don’s wife, walking back along the path to the car, pauses to study images on her camera—a tender, quiet moment that anchors the painting. The foreground features the textured golden field, receding into distant haze where the eye meets the Pacific coastline and the faint silhouette of the Ecola State Park overlook across the water—creating a gentle, atmospheric depth.

The painting evokes the peaceful solitude of an overlooked gem, a hidden vista that rewarded a spontaneous side trip with breathtaking simplicity.
