Studio oil painting "Moonlight 2:00AM" by Georgia artist Don Yaun, depicting a warm-lit homestead house glowing against a deep blue-purple moonlit night with silhouetted trees

Moonlight 2:00AM is a luminous studio oil painting that marks Don Yaun’s first return to oils after nearly a decade of working exclusively in acrylics since 2018. This 12″ × 16″ work on canvas board captures a quiet, inviting moment on his 11½-acre wooded homestead in Buford, Georgia. Unable to sleep one night, Don took a long walk around the property at 2:00 AM and photographed the house bathed in soft moonlight. A single light left on in one room spilled warm golden glow into the yard, creating a welcoming beacon amid the deep blue-purple shadows of the surrounding woods.

The painting explores the interplay of warm and cool tones: rich midnight blues and purples dominate the cool night air and tree silhouettes, contrasted by vivid orange-yellow light from the house and subtle moonlight highlights. Complementary pairs—blue/orange and purple/yellow—add energy and depth, while the textured brushwork conveys the crisp stillness of the early morning and the gentle mystery of moonlight on familiar ground.

This piece joins the Homestead Series as a nocturnal counterpart to the daytime driveway and tree scenes, evoking the peaceful, timeless feeling of home even in the dead of night.
