Frog Pond plein air acrylic painting of a reflective pond at Cherokee Bluffs Park in Georgia

Frog Pond is the third painting in an ongoing plein air series from Cherokee Bluffs Park in Georgia. Painted on site, this tranquil pond was alive with frogs calling, mosquito hawks flitting across the water, and aquatic plants growing along the banks. A shaded canopy of trees frames the scene, opening to a sunlit grassy field in the distance. Surrounded by walking trails and near a historic log cabin relocated to the park, this spot offered a quiet moment of reflection and rich, layered color—one of my favorite paintings from the series.

Cherokee Bluffs Park features miles of walking trails overlooking Lake Martin and showcases a wide range of native Georgia flora. This painting connects directly to others in the Cherokee Bluffs plein air series, capturing a quieter, more intimate corner of the park. Don Yaun’s Georgia landscape paintings often draw from these lesser-known natural spaces, blending the immediacy of plein air painting with an impressionistic approach that brings the Southeast’s hidden landscapes into collectors’ homes.
