Costa Rica Farm Sunset is a breathtaking studio acrylic painting that immortalizes a golden-hour moment of pure magic during Don Yaun’s 40th anniversary trip with his wife Debra in December 2017. This 24″ × 12″ work captures the dramatic overlook at Madre Tierra farm, the private agricultural estate owned by Hotel Belmar in Monteverde, Costa Rica. What began as a last-minute replacement tour became the trip’s highlight: a private guided ride through the countryside, a delicious farm-to-table meal on the barn’s upper deck (complete with fresh eggs and coffee grown on-site), and finally, the perfect sunset setup.
Don had positioned himself at the overlook earlier, knowing the southwest-facing vista would deliver something extraordinary. As the Land Rover rounded the turn, warm golden light flooded the scene. He frantically set up his tripod and camera, capturing the moment in the fading light. The result is a radiant, emotional tribute: the sun dipping low, bathing rolling pastures, distant mountains, and the farm in rich oranges, golds, and deep blues. The painting is secondary to the unforgettable emotions of the day—joy, discovery, and connection—but it preserves them forever.
The experience deepened Don’s appreciation for Costa Rica’s natural beauty, and the gracious owner of Hotel Belmar (who personally saddled the horses and greeted them) made it truly special.
